Reason #3 why BE is one of the best engineering firms to work for: The Office Expansion Committee…

Family, Diversity, Excellence, Teamwork, Fun, Together, Inviting… That’s How Brindley Engineering (BE) employees describe the strong company culture where they work. Brindley Engineering is proud to be a Great Places To Work company 2 years in a row. What makes the company culture so special? You read in Part 1 about the Brindley Engineering Marketing Committee. In part 2 of this series you read about the Culture Committee. Did you know that Brindley Engineering also has an Office Expansion Committee?  It’s time to learn about the BE Office Expansion Committee…

The Office Expansion Committee

BE is growing! The result: an office expansion. To help BE select the best options of layout, functionality, amenities, aesthetics, etc. the company has instilled a group of BE employees to oversee the expansion and ensure the plan flows well and blends stylistically with the current office.  “The BE office expansion committee exists to help make our new office space a desirable place to work, a place that people want to come to instead of have to come to,” said Rick Knoll, Member of the Office Expansion Committee.

This isn’t the first time BE has expanded its office. In early 2019, BE outgrew their space. Back then, BE established an ad hoc committee, as a fact-finding measure to help determine what facets of the new office space were most important to the staff. Based on the company size at that time, they knew there would be enough differing perspectives that getting input from a cross section of departments, job roles, and tenures would help them be sure to get it right. Strong company culture is very important to every at Brindley Engineering. Now at well over 100 employees, they anticipate that the team will have even more ideas, having the hindsight of what they like and what could use some improvement in the current space.

Why Invest in a New Space?

Functionality and comfort in an office space greatly enhance the ability to be creative and efficient at the same time.  While a neatly organized space with no personality may functionally fit the bill, it doesn’t inspire any thinking out of the box or collaborative energy from the BE teams.  “If it was only about pure “function”, we could all simply work at home and interact virtually.  The “live” environment in the office needs to be something that people crave as a place where they can work together and conquer the world!” said Knoll.

Designed for Designers by Designers

The committee has been instrumental in reviewing architect renderings, participating in color and finish meetings, and in multiple instances, providing their own interpretations of suggested layouts. The design team of the committee is a skilled group that serves as a link between all team members and the outside Architects. The committee suggests ideas and feedback of the new expansion that could positively impact the everyday workday at Brindley Engineering. “Within this committee I gave some insights to floor plan layouts, and space planning ideas that were incorporated in the final layout of the office. I am also providing design ideas to the architects to help with the creation of a branding wall that will be displayed at the entrance,” said Gibrann Ruiz, Structural Designer.  Afterall, when you put a team of engineers and designers who are tasked daily with creative expression, the output will be something special…

Some features to be on the lookout for are production staff workstations, but what the team is looking forward to most is more collaborative workspaces – both small and medium sized workgroups. There will also be a large conference space, a health and wellness space, and private areas for sensitive phone calls and video conferences.
