Great corporate culture can mean different things to different people and choosing the right place to work is no easy feat. Candidates must evaluate everything from salary and benefits, assess the company culture and potential for growth, consider work-life balance, and understand overall career goals. Brindley Engineering has been on a hiring spree, and we wanted to take a minute to ask our newest BE teammates why they chose Brindley Engineering as their workplace of choice. In Part 1 of this series you heard from Katy Summers, a Project Controls Specialist from our Lisle, IL office. In Part 2 you heard from Andrezza Henke Passarelli, a Structural Designer from our Houston Office and in Part 3 of this series you heard from Structural Designer, Phuong (Eva) Nguyen from our Lisle, IL office. In the final part of this series, we’d like to introduce Mike Brown, Senior Piping Team Lead &Designer from the Lisle, IL office.
Welcome to Part 4: Togetherness and Pride with Senior Piping Team Lead & Designer, Mike Brown. Making a difference is important to Mike Brown. When contemplating a career change culture was also a big part of the process. He wanted to work in a company where his contributions mattered but his biggest surprise in the job search was when Brindley Engineering became the option that checked all boxes – technically and culturally.
“Working at Brindley Engineering is what I had expected from a technical vantage point. However, when it comes to the perks of its people, my expectations were surpassed.”
Q: Tell us about your job search. What were you looking for in a company?
A: I had spent 17 years at an engineering firm that had grown so much that my personal impact in the company had dwindled. BE was appealing to me for the major opportunities it held for my career impact and growth.
Q: What stuck out to you most when you interviewed at Brindley Engineering?
A:During the interview process, the conversations I had with BE were friendly, familiar, and forward-thinking. We touched on my technical skills a bit, but what really stuck out to me was the projected growth, both personally and as a company, BE saw. The icing on the cake was meeting with Tom Brindley with him laying this direction out and further displaying examples of the BE culture.
Q: What is it like to work at BE?Is it what you expected?
A: After my interview experience, it was no surprise when all my expectations of BE’s work-environment/culture were exceeded. Technical know-how and strength within the industry are on display every day, and, when it comes to the perks of its people, my expectations were far surpassed. Even before my first day at BE, I was invited to join an outing with the Piping Department at a local axe-throwing spot. What more can I say than it was a great introduction to the people I’d be working alongside. 100%!
Q: What is the culture like at BE?
A: The culture at BE is energetic. We just celebrated our yearly “Friendsgiving” party where everyone brings in a dish that is personal to them to share with the office. The office swarms with activity, and it’s wonderful catching up with everyone over all the delicious food.
Q: What excitesyou most about the next 2 years?
A: What excites me the most are all the opportunities we’re seeing. There are more projects being bid and won from our current portfolio of clients, and what’s even more exciting are the new clients we’re meeting and building relationships with.
Q: What advice do you have for job seekers?
A: Find a company that exudes qualities that are important to you, that holds fast to its core principles, and that encourages employee togetherness. I found that in BE, and I hope you do too.
