Jessica Edwards, Brindley Engineering Project Services Specialist and Peter Glaser, Brindley Engineering Project Manager will speak at the conference. The title of their talk is: ”Reviving Earned Value Management: From Illusion to Insight.” We sat down with the engineers to understand their topic, the importance, and what they want attendees to take away from the conference. First, a little about Jessica and Peter.

As a Project Controls Specialist, Jessica Edwards brings a strong background in estimating, scheduling (Primavera P6), cost engineering, and digital transformation with tools like Power BI and Power Automate. She thrives on turning complexity into clarity, building processes, dashboards, and systems that empower teams to deliver with confidence.

As a Project Manager, Peter Glaser has a track record of leading professional development initiatives and fostering innovation in engineering. His background includes successful project management in both the Transmission and Distribution energy infrastructure industries. He excels at mentoring staff, driving process improvements, and managing program, maintenance and capital projects.

Q: What will you be presenting on?

A:Earned Value Management (EVM).

Q: Why did you choose this topic?

A:We noticed across the industry that earned value management can sometimes be treated more as a compliance requirement than a true management tool. That stood out to us because a lot of people experience it, but it’s not always openly discussed.

In some cases, the focus shifts toward meeting reporting requirements rather than fully understanding and using the data to drive decisions. We think that creates a real opportunity to refocus on what EVM is meant to do…. improve visibility, strengthen forecasting, and actually support better project outcomes.

“We hope people leave with the understanding that EVM should be more than a compliance exercise. It should provide clarity, support decision making, and help project teams act before problems become outcomes.”

Q: What do you hope people take away from your presentation and what do you hope to learn from others at the conference?

A:We hope people leave with the understanding that EVM should be more than a compliance exercise. It should provide clarity, support decision making, and help project teams act before problems become outcomes. Our goal is to encourage project professionals to move from reporting performance to truly understanding performance.

At this year’s AACE conference, our team is excited to see how project controls organizations are further integrating cost, schedule, and risk into actionable dashboards, sharpening how we communicate EVM and schedule risk to stakeholders, and exploring practical ways to integrate AI tools into our project controls workflows so we can enhance forecasting, improve risk visibility, and reduce manual reporting while continuing to evolve our project controls processes, mentoring, and leadership culture.

Q: Is there anything else you would like readers to know about this event?

A: We encourage attendees to come prepared to engage and share their own experiences. AACE conferences are a great opportunity to not only learn from presentations but also exchange practical lessons learned with peers across the industry.

You can catch Jessica and Peter Tuesday, June 30th (EVM‐4820) from 9:55am – 10:55am.
