Gourav Patodi selected by American Concrete Institute (ACI) to participate in the Young Member Poster Showcase

The ACI Concrete Convention is just around the corner! Join Brindley Engineering and Gourav Patodi, PE, Associate Structural Engineer and Team Lead in Rosemont, IL March 29-31. Gourav has been selected to present an abstract of a project he has worked on to share at the conference.

The Young Member Poster Showcase is meant for engineers under 35 working in industry. During the session people walk around, ask questions, and network with other engineers and industry experts.

We sat down with Gourav to find about more about what to expect at the presentation in Rosemont.

Q: What does this selection mean for you?
A: It’s a great honor to have my work selected by ACI. The opportunity to share field experience and practical lessons learned from real-world structural repair projects with other professionals in the industry is very rewarding. I’m grateful to represent both my team and the work we are doing at Brindley Engineering and to engage with other professionals who are passionate about advancing the durability and reliability of concrete infrastructure.

Q: What will you be presenting on?
A: I will be presenting a case study focused on the assessment and repair of deteriorated reinforced concrete supporting heavy process equipment in an industrial facility. The project involved evaluating significant concrete spalling/deterioration, reinforcement & anchorage corrosion, and grout concerns, and developing practical repair strategies that could be implemented within tight turnaround schedules.

Q: Why did you choose this topic?
A: A large portion of industrial concrete infrastructure in the United States was built several decades ago and is now reached or have passed an age where deterioration becomes a critical concern… These structures often face harsh environmental conditions that accelerate deterioration. I chose this topic because it highlights the importance of combining proper inspection and sound engineering evaluation with practical repair strategies that extend the service life of these structures while maintaining safety and reliability.

Q: What do you hope people take away from your presentation and what do you hope to learn from others?
A: I hope attendees gain practical insights into how engineers approach assessing deteriorated concrete structures and developing effective repair solutions in active industrial environments. At the same time, I’m looking forward to learning from others who have faced similar challenges, hearing about emerging materials and technologies, and exchanging ideas with professionals who are advancing repair and rehabilitation practices across the industry.

Q: Is there anything else you would like reader to know about this event?
A:The Young Member Poster Showcase is a great platform for early-career engineers to share their work, connect with peers, and engage directly with experienced professionals in the concrete industry. It’s an open and collaborative environment where engineers can discuss real projects and learn from one another, which is one of the things that make ACI events so valuable.

Young Member poster showcase is open to professional industry projects in any area of concrete engineering, contracting, laboratory work, etc. Young Members are defined as those 35 and younger who are currently working in industry (non-academic). The purpose of the session is to allow Young Members an open forum to present their current and completed projects, to network and discuss with industry experts and peers in related fields.
