Those attending The Brimstone Sulfur Symposium in Vail, Colorado September 8-12 will soon find out! Brindley Engineering’s Gavin Palmer along with Tom Kline from Structural Technologies, will be co-speaking at the Symposium.
Their talk is titled: Once in a lifetime? Common deficiencies with Sulfur pit mechanical installations, and potential for their remediation during a pit turnaround.

Brindley Engineering, in partnership with Structural Technologies, has been involved in upwards of thirty Sulfur pit turnarounds in the past 7-8 years alone. During this time a database of common deficiencies has been compiled to assist in execution of future pit turnarounds, whether it be due to poor initial design or installation, changes in codes / standards / best practices, operational changes etc.
The talk will cover:
- Reduction in pit size due to concrete liner dimensions
- Sulfur rundown piping to pit and Sulfur seals
- Steam coil design
- Air sweep – eductor(s) and air inlet(s)
- Instrumentation
- Snuffing steam
